AOV (Average Order Value)
The average dollar amount of a single order — total revenue divided by number of orders over a period. Shops track it to see whether upsells and add-ons are actually moving the needle.
COGS (Cost of Goods Sold)
The direct material cost of an arrangement — stems, greenery, and hard goods like the vase, ribbon, and card. Doesn't include labor or overhead. See how to price floral arrangements.
Delivery zone
A defined geographic area a shop delivers to, often used to set different delivery fees or cutoff times by distance from the shop. See delivery routing.
Event order
An order tied to a specific event — a wedding, corporate event, or funeral — rather than a single retail sale, usually multiple arrangements delivered or set up together on one date. See wedding season planning.
Markup
The amount added on top of COGS to set a retail price, often expressed as a multiple (like 3x cost) or a percentage. See how to price floral arrangements.
Online ordering
Letting customers order arrangements directly from a shop's own website, instead of only by phone or in person. See selling flowers online.
POS (Point of Sale)
The system used to ring up a sale — historically a cash register, now usually software that also tracks inventory, customers, and orders. See florist POS.
Recipe costing
Tying a product's price to the actual list of stems, greenery, and supplies (the recipe) it takes to make, instead of pricing by feel. See floral inventory software.
Shrink / waste
Product lost before it can be sold — flowers that wilt, break, or go unused. Tracking shrink shows the real gap between what was bought and what was actually sold.
Standing order
A recurring order set up once and repeated automatically on a schedule — like weekly office flowers or a repeat customer's monthly delivery — instead of re-entered every time. (Florisyn's own standing orders today are on the wholesale-buying side of the marketplace — a shop reordering the same wholesale flowers on a schedule — not yet a customer-facing recurring-delivery feature.)
Stem count
The number of individual flower stems used in an arrangement — the base unit a recipe's cost is built from.
Substitution
Swapping one flower or material for another, usually because the original isn't available, while keeping the arrangement's color, size, and style intent close to the original request.
Vase life
How long a cut flower stays fresh in water after being cut, affected by variety, handling, and care. See flower care basics.
Wedding proposal
A written estimate a florist prepares for a wedding — itemizing arrangements, pricing, and terms — before a couple commits. See wedding florist software.
Wire service
A network that lets florists send and receive orders with florists in other cities, typically for a membership fee plus a per-order commission. See how Florisyn compares to traditional wire services.
